Spend less time together
This one can be tricky to spot. If you seem to be dating each other less and less, then there may be a problem. However, if your partner is truly spending time alone, they may just need to be alone and regroup.
If you find that he’s isolating himself more and more over choosing to spend time with you, you may need to put a stop to this behavior. Be aware of this and, also, be willing to give space if the need arises.
“I’m fine.”
If they keep telling you they’re fine or good when you ask, they’re probably not. If there is an issue and they respond with this terse reply, then you should leave it alone for a time.
If they want to open up to you, they have that ability. Forcing them to be open is a surefire way that you will cross their boundaries and make an already tense situation worse.
One-sided conversations
This may seem pretty obvious, but one-sided conversations can actually happen to both partners. If you start talking to your partner and they talk back to you, but you just don’t understand why they would care about it, they could be pulling away. For instance, if you start talking about painting walls, but they start talking about a work story without acknowledging your conversation, that is a one-sided conversation.
